Keepin It Real: Car Edition

Y'all, I tackled it.  My car.  It was bad.  See, our van is almost 10 years old.  And we've had it almost 5 of those years.  And during those 5 years, we had 2 more kids.  Milk bottles, sippy cups, raisins, snack, THROW UP!  Yes, they've all graced our car with their presence.

Yes, we've cleaned it out and vacuumed it, etc.  But it was time for a deep clean.

So me and my little buddy decided to load up all our gear and get it done.

What I needed:  heavy duty shop vac, SCRUB brush, windex, paper towels, golf tee, lysol, carpet cleaner, and Rick and Bubba.  :)  Gotta have something to listen to while doing the dirty work.

I took out the seats to find this:

Sometimes you just can't reach places to keep them clean without removing everything inside.

Long story short, I found a Nintendo DS game, beads (which I SWEAR are from 2 Christmases ago) gum, skittles, peanuts, paper galore, pencils, old sausage biscuit, key chains, shoes, piano music, crayons, Publix coloring books, cars, food, food, and more food!

I found the golf tee and used it to get gunk out from under where the seats hook in.  I also SCRUBBED the chairs down with lysol.  I didn't care if it wasn't good for the leather, it was needed a heavy disinfecting.

I'm just kinda embarrassed I let it get this far.  I used to be a lot better at keeping my car clean.  But think about it.  There are EIGHT hands bringing stuff in.  And as much as I tell them to take it out, somehow half of it stays in.  I don't often sit in the third row seat so I haven't been able to evaluate how bad it had gotten.

I don't have an after picture, but just imagine a nice smelling, CLEAN car.  Oh, and new rules.  NO EATING in the car.  And EVERYTHING gets taken out when we pull into the garage.  And one more rule.  No more publix coloring books and crayons.  While it's super sweet that they hand them out so freely, they just end up making a home in my car.

We'll see how long it lasts.  Because sometimes the only time to eat will be in the car.  But I'm definitely cracking down on things in the "Chauffeur Lindsay" business.  :)

  1. Way to go!!!! I feel the same way about my car. I haven't done a deep clean (with the golf tee and removing the seats) yet, but I pull the shop vac out at lest every other month to suck everything up I can. The first thing my husband did after we bought our used van (exactly like yours) was take it the next day to get the custom rubber mats. Those have been a life saver! I get the kids to scrub them with a broom and some some. And I'm with you, I don't care what Lysol does to the leather, it will thank me for using it when I'm done! Good luck on keeping it ship shape!!

If you don't have anything nice to say, then, please don't say anything at all! THANKS!
